Spider-Man has still yet to make his bow in Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War, but we may already know details about his upcoming solo adventure. And the leak comes in the most ordinary ways.
Sony Pictures recently registered the domain SpiderManHomecomingTheMovie.com, which could give us clues as to what his solo film will be about. Now, just because Sony has registered something doesn’t 100 percent confirm the studio’s plans; Sony also has an animated Spider-Man movie planned, so the domain could have nothing to do with what will happen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
That being said, as noted by Screen Crush, the domain could be referring to “Amazing Spider-Man #252,” a storyline that featured none other than Captain America and Iron Man. There have been rumors the two might show up in Spider-Man’s solo debut, possibly giving credibility to the Spider-Man: Homecoming title.
The story of Homecoming first introduces the black symbiote costume that fans recognize as Venom. Of course, as we know from previous films in the MCU, Marvel doesn’t follow comic storylines verbatim, so Homecoming might only be very loosely based on what happened in “Amazing Spider-Man #252.”
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has previously explained that they’re aiming to make Spider-Man’s solo movie feel like a John Hughes movie, more about him as a teenager and less about him as a superhero. Regardless of what Spider-Man’s solo film is about, fans will get to see him appear in Captain America: Civil War when the movie hits theaters on May 6, 2016.
