We already know some scenes were cut out of Batman v Superman because they didn’t flow with the story. Now, according to director Zack Snyder, one scene in particular was axed because it was too dark.
Spoilers ahead.
Toward the end of the film, Superman finds out his mom, Martha Kent, had been kidnapped by Lex Luthor’s goons. But instead of going to look for her, he’s forced to fight Batman to the death in order to save her life. Snyder said it almost didn’t happen that way.
We had a scene that we cut from the movie where [Superman] tries to look for her when he finds out that Lex has got her. It was a slightly dark scene that we cut out because it sort of represented this dark side. Because when he was looking for his mom he heard all the cries of all the potential crimes going on in the city.
Makes sense. At that point in the film, it would have been weird to see Superman acknowledge all these people in need and choose to ignore them. It would have been the opposite image Snyder had built up of Superman until that point.
Still, it’s a little weird Superman’s super hearing didn’t hear Martha’s cries as she was being kidnapped. After all, he somehow knew Lois Lane was in trouble and he was seemingly half-way across the world. Ah, plot holes.
