Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon is easily one of the best rock albums of all time, and it turns out it’s also the gift that keeps on giving. Listen to it three times through while watching Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the two pieces of art actually match up shockingly well.
Of course, you’ve probably heard how the same album also syncs with Wizard of Oz. That matchup works pretty well, too, but now it’s time for a 21st-century alternative.
The video above showcases the first eight minutes of the experience, and it almost has us convinced. At the very least there are worse ways to spend your evening than kicking back and re-watching Force Awakens with a killer new soundtrack. Just put the album on repeat and hit play right after the opening crawl is over.
This theory was recently posted on Reddit, where one person argued that it may even explain why large portions of The Force Awakens were apparently cut for time.
There are also a few moments where Pink Floyd’s lyrics match up extremely well with the movie. For example, the first time we hear the iconic song
“Time” it lines up with the first scene showing Rey’s depressing life on Jankku. One line, in particular, feels like a pretty good summation of her activity.
“Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town, waiting for someone or something to show you the way.”
That’s pretty spot on.
Check out the first eight minutes in the video above and if you’re still not convinced try watching the entire thing the next time you have a couple of hours to spare.
