Deadpool sequel confirmed, Ryan Reynolds to return

Ryan Reynolds will return as the fourth-wall breaking, chimichanga-loving Weapon X mutant for the upcoming Deadpool sequel. 20th Century Fox, in an announcement surprising absolutely no one, confirmed the news at CinemaCon on Thursday. The studio also said Tim Miller will be back to direct.

While people loved Deadpool for its crude humor and violent action, the movie would not have been half as good were it not for Reynolds, who embodied the role of mercenary turned good guy. His performance helped bring closure to his previous portrayal of the character, and it also proved why he’d been advocating for the role for so long.

Since launching in February, Deadpool has gone on to become the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever, amassing more than $757 million at the worldwide box office. For a film that wasn’t even supposed to happen, I’d say that’s a pretty healthy return on a production budget of $58 million.

No release date has been set for the film but a script is already supposedly close to being finished.
