Gianluca Gimini, an Italian artist living in Bologna, Italy, approached strangers randomly and asked them to draw a bike from memory. It turns out, as Gimini learned, that drawing a bike without a reference in front of you can be really hard.
So, Gimini took his collection of hand drawn bikes and turned a few of them into 3D models. You can see that in the gallery above, with the drawing first and the model second. It’s incredible as some approach reality while others look genuinely absurd once mocked up.
Gimini loves the work. On the Behance page for the project, which you can find in the source link below, Gimini writes this:
I collected hundreds of drawings, building up a collection that I think is very precious. There is an incredible diversity of new typologies emerging from these crowd-sourced and technically error-driven drawings. A single designer could not invent so many new bike designs in 100 lifetimes and this is why I look at this collection in such awe. [sic]
Gimini wants the project shared. He’s “looking for a sponsor to help me print and exhibit the entire work.”
