The report says the actor recently closed a deal to appear in the upcoming reboot though it’s unclear how large his role will be.
We’ve been hearing for months now that Downey Jr. would have a part to play in Homecoming, with the same reports also saying Captain America would make an appearance as well. Considering Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark is the one who brings Spider-Man into the fray in Captain America: Civil War, today’s new is no big surprise. According to the report, Homecoming will build on the relationship between the two character’s that’s established in Civil War.
Not only will including Iron Man in Spider-Man’s movie help build upon this relationship between the two heroes, but it will give Marvel the opportunity to differentiate its take on the web-slinger, who has only just been handed over to the studio by Sony. It’ll also establish that, yes, Spider-Man is now part of the MCU, and will likely just be a precursor to the hero showing up quite a bit more after he makes his debut in next month’s Civil War.
Tom Holland plays Peter Parker/Spider-Man with Marisa Tomei, Zendaya, Tony Revolori, and Laura Harrier all expected to appear in the upcoming film. Previous report pegged Homecoming as focusing more on Parker’s life as a teen, with some describing it as taking inspiration from John Hughes films. Throw in some swinging around New York along with Tony Stark’s gizmos, and maybe seeing the Iron Spider Armor isn’t so out of the question.
