With Robert Downey Jr. set to appear in Captain America: Civil War, Avengers, Infinity War and possibly even Spider-Man: Homecoming, you’d think he wouldn’t have much time for any other projects, but speaking to Shortlist, that’s apparently not the case.
“We’re talking about it right now,” Downey Jr. said when asked about the possibility of a third movie in the Sherlock Holmes franchise. “We’re attempting to make one this year. It really is a big deal to go and do those movies. I’m tired all the time, but I’m so excited about it.”
It’s been five years since the last Sherlock Holmes came out, and the most recent one ended on a bit of a cliffhanger. I don’t think anyone is opposed to seeing another one made, it’s just a matter of getting all of the pieces together. It just wouldn’t be the same with Downey Jr., Jude Law, or even Guy Ritchie in the director’s chair.
At least we know talks are ongoing. That’s better than nothing at all. If shooting does begin this year, production won’t begin until the very end of 2016 and, even then, we probably won’t see a final product until the end of 2017 or early 2018.
