DC Entertainment already boasts a handful of well-received TV shows chronicling the lives of some of its most popular heroes like The Flash and Supergirl. This week the company announced it’s teaming up with Syfy to add another show to the list, though this one may not feature any iconic characters.
Krypton takes place on Superman’s home planet, but it’s set two generations before the Man of Steel was born. The show will focus on Superman’s grandfather, known in the comics as Seyg-El. His son, Jor-El could also make an appearance.
Syfy isn’t offering many plot details yet but did share a short description of the new series. “Krypton will follow Superman’s grandfather — whose House of El was ostracized and shamed — as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos,” the company revealed.
DC has a solid track record when it comes to recent live action TV efforts, so we’re excited to see what it does with Krypton. The opening scene of Man of Steel set on the same alien planet was pretty awesome. We just hope the new series can recapture some of that magic.
Krypton is produced by David S. Goyer, who guided DC’s recent cinematic efforts with Man of Steel, Batman v Superman and The Dark Knight trilogy. Colm McCarthy, who directed season 2 of Peaky Blinders, is set to direct the pilot episode.
