Nintendo isn’t exactly known for its full-length films. One only needs to point to that 1993 dud and all conversation on the topic immediately comes to a screeching halt. Thankfully, for the sake of its fanbase, Nintendo will be foregoing its live-action ambitions and instead will be focused on hand-drawn and computer animated films in the near future.

Speaking with Asashi Shinbun, company President and CEO Tatsumi Kimishima states that Nintendo hopes to return to the big screen within the next three years. He didn’t specify which Nintendo franchises the company is looking to use, nor did he give any hints about plans to turn its properties into television shows. Just movies, and lots of outside help in doing it right.

Lots and lots and LOTS of help.

Thanks goodness, too. The idea might sound bogus or like a “dream come true,” depending on who you talk to, but thanks to Marvel, Star Wars, and other multi-media fixated properties, this is just the way entertainment works these days. Nintendo needs to keep up with the rest of the world or fall behind.

Just, please, if we get an animated Legend of Zelda film, do it right. We’ve waited 30 years for one, and we just want to see something that resembles the series itself. What’s Genndy Tartakovsky up to these days?
