Before Suicide Squad hits theaters this summer, Warner Bros. is already devising ways to open up the DC universe even more. And with Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn a pretty big focus of the movie’s recent trailers, it’s no surprise to hear she’s the one most likely to get a spin-off—well, sort of.
According to Hollywood Reporter, the infamous DC villain will lead a movie featuring several DC female heroes and villains—sort of like a who’s who of female characters.
“Details are being closely guarded but names such as Batgirl and Birds of Prey have surface, although in what capacity, it’s not clear,” Hollywood Reporter said.
A script is already in the works but, of course, details about the potential plot are also under wraps. We’ve already seen several female DC characters pop up on the big screen over the years, including Poison Ivy, Wonder Woman, Bat Girl, Catwoman and now this summer’s Harley Quinn. Not that long ago, there was a comic series called Gotham City Sirens that followed Quinn, Ivy and Catwoman, so that could be one possibility for DC.
With a Batman spinoff on the way, it sure sounds like Warner Bros. is pretty eager to establish a wider universe outside of Superman. We’ll see Robbie make her big debut as Harley Quinn when Suicide Squad hits theaters on Aug. 5, 2016.
