Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster has been rumored to be a no-show in Thor: Ragnarok, and new report has finally confirmed that, yep, she’s not going to appear in the upcoming film. But before you get upset, Marvel has a very solid reason.

In an interview with Empire Podcast, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige said Portman isn’t going to be in Ranarok for a number of reasons—he didn’t reveal every last detail—but mostly said it’s because the movie takes place in space, not Earth.

“There are only a couple of scenes on Earth in this movie; 80 to 90 percent takes place in the cosmos,” Feige explained.

Trying to fit Portman’s character into the story might feel shoehorned. As it is, she didn’t have all that much to do in Thor: The Dark World despite going to Asgard and it sounds like she’d have even less to do in Ragnarok if she was included.

While the plot for Ragnarok hasn’t been confirmed, rumor has it Thor will get banished from Asgard and become a gladiator on another planet. As it so happens, Bruce Banner’s Hulk, who was last seen at the end of Age of Ultron, will be a gladiator on the same planet, meaning we might get a rematch of their first fight from Avengers.

Just because Portman doesn’t appear in Ragnarok, however, doesn’t mean she’s out of the Marvel picture for good. Does that mean she’ll show up in Avengers: Infinity War? Unlikely, but you never know.

Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on Nov. 3, 2017.
