After allegedly turning the role down, multiple outlets are reporting Michael Keaton is once again “close” to signing on for Spider-Man: Homecoming. If true, Keaton will play the movie’s main villain, rumored to be the Vulture.

Apparently an offer was made to Keaton back in April but the actor declined, leading Sony and Marvel to look elsewhere for talent. However, the studios returned to Keaton, likely with a better offer and whatever assurances he needed before signing on the dotted line.

Keaton has a storied history with comic fans, first appearing as Batman and then in the self-reflective Birdman, which earned the actor rave reviews. Now, back in the spotlight, Keaton is very much in demand and the top choice to play the role.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is the upcoming reboot from Marvel and Sony, with the young Tom Holland playing the titular role. Also confirmed to appear in the film is Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark/Iron Man, along with Marisa Tomei as Aunt May.

With seemingly only the villain role to fill, it sounds like Keaton’s Vulture is the last puzzle peace needed before filming can begin ahead of the movie’s release on July 7, 2017.
