Mirror’s Edge might end up on your TV screen in the not-too-distant future. But I’m not talking about the very-near game, Mirror’s Edge Catalyst.

Television rights to the property have been purchased by Endemol Shine Studios, whose parent Endemol Shine North America is best known for Big Brother, The Biggest Loser, and the Master Chef line of shows.

The dystopian property, says Endemol Shine Studios president Sharon Hall, is “a franchise for the global TV audience.”

“It has a strong female protagonist, a wildly rabid fan base, and a worldwide brand that Electronic Arts and EA DICE have done an amazing job establishing.”

She’s right about the wildly rabid fanbase, and the basic ideas of Mirror’s Edge would absolutely fuel a TV show that could do well somewhere like The CW. The story has all kinds of room for conspiracies, betrayal, and stunt-heavy action sequences filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia. Modern visual effects could even go a long way toward imbuing the series with the game’s iconic monochromatic look.

When and where we’d see the show – and if we’d even see it – are all up in the air. A television series doing well, though, would certainly provide enough impetus to keep the series going beyond the upcoming prequel.

As for the game itself, that’s much more imminent. Mirror’s Edge Catalyst hits PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on June 7.
