Before the role of young Han Solo was filled, reports said upwards of 2,500 actors had auditioned for the role. Even, as it turns out, Daredevil’s Charlie Cox, who says he pretty much blew his chance because he was so used to playing the blind superhero.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Cox said he got the opportunity to audition for a major role in an upcoming Star Wars movie; he wasn’t told which one, but he guessed it was for the Han Solo spinoff. Not that it matters, because Cox apparently bombed.

Here’s what Cox said about the experience:

I had gone to an audition—one of those things that are super secretive and they don’t tell you, but I’m pretty sure it was for the Han Solo reboot—and halfway through it, the casting director stopped me and said, ‘Why aren’t you looking at me?’ I realized I had gotten into a habit of not making eye contact, because the only thing I had done for two years is play someone who is blind. I never got invited back, probably because they couldn’t figure out why I was acting like a complete idiot.

Yeesh. I’ve heard of method acting, but actors typically shed their onscreen persona when filming has wrapped. Instead, it sounds like poor Charlie is so used to playing Matt Murdock that the role follows him wherever he goes—even when the role of a lifetime is on the line.
