Making a Murderer, the hit Netflix crime documentary about the life of Steven Avery, will return for a second season, Netflix announced on Tuesday. The debut season focused on Avery, a man from Manitowoc County, Wisconsin, who was wrongfully found guilty for a sexual assault and murder in the 80s; he served 18 years in prison before being exonerated in 2003. Two years later, he was arrested in connection with the murder of Teresa Halbach and convicted in 2007.

In addition to Avery, the documentary also focused on his nephew, Brendan Dassey, who was also convicted in the murder of Halbach as an accessory. The second season will focus on Avery’s life post-conviction, Netflix said, and provide an update from the legal teams representing both Avery and Dassey.

The documentary was a riveting exploration of the U.S. criminal justice system, and how these convictions can tear a family apart. Production on the new season has already begun although it’s unclear when it’ll be completed and how many episodes there will be; the first season featured ten hour-long episodes.

The directors of Making a Murderer, Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos, spent 10 years preparing the first season, but it’s very unlikely fans of the show will have to wait that long to see more. Since launching last December, the show has captivated audiences worldwide and has since gone on to earn six Emmy nominations, including one for best documentary or nonfiction series.
