The Blair Witch Project is getting a proper sequel

Lionsgate pulled a fast one on Comic-Con attendees this week, using a special early screening of The Woods to announce the horror film is actually called Blair Witch.

Those are two words you probably haven’t heard for a while. According to Lionsgate, the film is a direct sequel to the 1999 original, The Blair Witch Project, which thrilled audiences with its approach to found-footage horror. It’s better if we just forget Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows even existed.

Blair Witch will follow four friends as they explore Black Hills Forest outside of Burkittsville, Maryland, where three budding filmmakers disappeared nearly two decades ago. It just so happens that one of the four friends, James, is the younger brother of one of the three who went missing in the first film.

The Blair Witch Project was a polarizing horror film when it first came out, to say the least, using a unique approach that pretended to be a documentary. It’s been endlessly duplicated over the years but none have been able to capture the rawness of the original.

Blair Witch will hit theaters on Sept. 16, 2016.
