Dunkirk, a WWII flick from Christoper Nolan, gets its first trailer

It’s been a while since we’ve had a genuinely great World War II movie. Christopher Nolan sounds like the perfect director to helm a new project in the genre. Enter Dunkirk, a film that seemingly takes on the Battle of Dunkirk and the subsequent evacuation of ally powers.

The Battle of Dunkirk occurred in in the late days of May and early June in 1940. This was before the U.S. had even entered the War. Dunkirk, France, served as the evacuation point for British and allied forces as Germany extended the Western front in their favor. The allies managed to evacuate more than 300,000 troops in the effort, a success in the face of what’s otherwise been labelled a German victory.

The trailer for Dunkirk is brief and without vocals. We see the allies standing on what looks like a barge when we hear planes begin to roar overhead. The moment is terrifying, and it sets the tone for Nolan’s flick perfectly.

Dunkirk is set for a 2017 release.
