They say your chances of winning the lottery is just as good as if you hadn’t purchased a ticket at all. I wonder what the chances are of someone suddenly getting $92,000,000,000,000,000 from PayPal? Zilch, though it miraculously happened to 56-year-old Delaware County resident Chris Reynolds this last week. The clerical error somehow put $92 quadrillion in his account; Reynolds said he typically spends about $100 through the service at any given time. What a sweet little bonus.

At first, Reynolds said he thought he owed quadrillions. But the money-transfer email clearly said $92,233,720,368,547,800. Sadly, when Reynolds actually logged into his account, his balance was at $0. That has to be one of the more cruel teases in history; Reynolds, of course, wasn’t allowed to keep any of the money, and wasn’t compensated for the mistake.

When asked what he’d do if he actually was suddenly the richest man on Earth, Reynolds said he’d buy the Phillies.
