It won’t just be in Justice League that we see Superman take flight. A new report from TheWrap, citing anonymous sources, claims a proper Man of Steel sequel is now in active development at Warner Bros. Previously, those involved with the first film suggested a sequel would never happen, leading fans to speculate about the superhero’s future.

Warner Bros. currently has ambitious plans for the DCEU, with films such as Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Flash, Justice League, Shazam and more all on the table. It’s unclear where Man of Steel 2 would fit in, especially with a Batman trilogy reportedly on the way, but Warner Bros. apparently still has big plans for Superman.

“A person close to the project told TheWrap that Superman is a top priority for the studio and getting the character right for audiences is of tantamount importance,” TheWrap’s report says.

Man of Steel came out all the way back in 2013 to mixed reviews, but it sparked DC’s much anticipated cinematic universe. Now, we’re three movies deep in the DCEU, including Man of Steel, Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad, with more, including Man of Steel 2, to come. Hopefully, this could be the movie George Miller makes his DC debut.

Warner Bros. hasn’t officially commented on the rumor but we’ll update if/when we learn more.
