It looks like the budding feud between Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Vin Diesel is about to get a more glamorous stage: Wrestlemania XXXIII. If you haven’t been keeping up with the off-set tension between the two superstars, the inciting incident began when The Rock posted a cryptic message on Instagram about certain cast members being “candyasses,” with many believing he was referring to Diesel.
Turns out, this whole so-called feud may be an elaborate prank to set up a promotional fight between the two. The Fast and Furious franchise evolved from car-focused movies to action thrillers, but the main backbone of the franchise is the family-like chemistry the cast members share with each other. This would make any rift between the co-stars newsworthy.
Wrestlemania XXXIII is set to take place April 2, 2017, a mere 12 days before Fast 8 hits theaters. In that context, the whole elaborate joke makes a lot more sense. In all honesty, we should have known better. The Rock isn’t known for throwing co-stars under the bus and the “candyass” moniker was a staple of his character when he was part of WWE.
It should be noted that nothing has been confirmed by The Rock, Diesel or WWE. If this rumor turns out to be true, they’ll likely keep it under wraps a while longer to build up demand.
Fast 8 is in theaters April 14, 2017.
