Deathstroke (a.k.a. Slade Joseph Wilson), a character closely associated with the Teen Titans, is apparently headed to the DC Extended Universe. According to a Tweet from Ben Affleck on Monday, which depicts the villain walking toward the camera, the character has a part to play in an upcoming film, but which one?
Affleck’s Tweet comes in the thick of filming for Justice League, so one would anticipate the character showing up in the upcoming team-up film. However, a new report from The Wrap claims Deathstroke is actually the main villain in Affleck’s solo Batman movie, something we’re not expecting to see until 2018 at the earliest.
Adding further weight to the rumor, as The Wrap points out, is the creator of Arrow, Marc Guggenheim, saying Deathstroke hasn’t appeared in the show because he is tied up in another mysterious DC project. Well, turns out, that project could potentially be Affleck’s Batman movie.
It seems odd for Affleck to randomly tease details about a Batman movie so out of the blue like this, especially with much of the focus on Justice League right now. One possible explanation is that Deathstroke will have some kind of cameo appearance in Justice League and later show up in Affleck’s film.
Another odd thing about the rumor is that we previously heard Affleck’s solo movie would deal with much of Batman’s iconic Rogues Gallery, so hearing Deathstroke is the “main” villain of the film is certainly unexpected.
Much of this is based on speculation and conjecture, so don’t take it as confirmation. Here’s what we know: Ben Affleck Tweeted a video of a character that looks a lot like Deathstroke. Beyond that, we know nothing.
