Disney is rebooting yet another one of its beloved classics, and this time it’s The Lion King.
With nary a rumor circulating, Disney announced on Wednesday that it is working with Jon Favreau on a reboot of 1994’s hit film, The Lion King. Favreau last teamed up with Disney for The Jungle Book earlier this year which took in $965.8M globally.
The Lion King is one of the most successful animated films of all time with a global box office total of $968.8M. It also spawned a hugely successful stage musical that has broken records all over the world.
The new flick is being described as not being a live action film, but will be made to look as if it is. What exactly this means is anyone’s guess at this moment, but with some of the massive advances in computer animation over the past several years, the line between live action and animation has blurred considerably.
The songs, which played a huge role in the success of the original film, will carry over to the new production, so expect to get all of them stuck in your head once again.
Favreau and Disney are also currently in development on a sequel to The Jungle Book, but no release date for either of these productions has been announced as of yet.
