Fans of Marvel’s expanding cinematic universe don’t have to wait for Doctor Strange to hit theaters in November to see more superhero action. Today (Friday, September 30) Netflix has released the first season of Luke Cage (played by Mike Colter), a new series that focuses on the bullet-proof hero as he fights to protect Harlem.
Introduced in last year’s excellent Jessica Jones, Luke Cage quickly became one of the show’s most liked and enthralling characters. Colter played him with a convincing vulnerability, giving Cage an enigmatic presence whenever he was onscreen. You knew he was suffering greatly because of his past, yet he couldn’t escape it.
When describing Cage, Colter said he’s a much more reserved and tangible character compared to someone like Iron Man or Thor.
“He likes to keep things close to his chest, operate on the hush-hush,” Colter explained to LA Times. “He’s a renaissance man, he’s trying to better himself and there’s something to be said about someone who’s always trying to make themselves better, trying to change.”
If you aren’t convinced Luke Cage could be Marvel’s best show yet, just check out the trailer above. Sure, Cage has a more reserved personality and prefers to stay out of the spotlight. But he also carries himself with an assured swagger—and it helps when you’re bulletproof.
Luke Cage is available on Netflix now.
