Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell no Tales teaser omits Jack Sparrow

Most people probably don’t realize Disney is releasing yet another Pirates of the Caribbean movie—the fifth since the franchise launched in 2003—and yet here we are. With a May 26, 2017, looming, the first teaser for the film has been released—and Captain Jack Sparrow is nowhere to be found.

The teaser is full of wonderful visuals, something that’s always been a strong suit of the franchise. There’s a creepy atmosphere made delightfully weird by the introduction of Captain Salazar, who is being played by Javier Bardem. Any time Bardem is in a movie you know it’s going to be good, and especially when he’s playing the villain.

What I especially liked about the teaser is how Captain Salazar looks like he’s underwater despite clearly being on land. Here’s the movie’s official synopsis:

Captain Jack Sparrow is pursued by an old rival, Captain Salazar, who along with his crew of ghost pirates has escaped from the Devil’s Triangle, and is determined to kill every pirate at sea. Jack seeks the Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that grants its possessor total control over the seas, in order to defeat Salazar.

In addition to the return of Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow, Geoffrey Rush, and Orlando Bloom are also returning as Hector Barbossa and Will Turner, respectively. Check out the teaser above.
