We’ll get an extended look at Jason Momoa’s Aquaman in next year’s Justice League. After that, he’ll show up in his own film, which is being directed by horror aficionado James Wan.
The director recently sat down with Entertainment Tonight to discuss the upcoming movie, giving fans a few details about what to expect.
Among his most notable quotes, Wan said the movie will be a “swashbuckling action-adventure” that is reminiscent of 80s action films.
“It’s ultimately a quest story in the spirit of Raiders of the Lost Ark meets Romancing the Stone,” Wan said.
With one quote, Wan has my attention.
Raiders of the Lost Ark on the high seas
“The spirit that I’m going for is like a classic sort of swashbuckling action adventure, sort of high seas adventure story,” he added.
We’re not sure what, exactly, that will entail, but I can already picture a darker version of Pirates of the Caribbean—just with more hard-drinking. Seems the liquid Aquaman likes more than water is liquor, as we saw in the Justice League footage.
“That is just scratching the surface of what I plan to do,” Wan said.
Justice League will help inform audiences as to who Aquaman is as a character next November before his solo adventure hits theaters in the summer of 2018.
