Things are looking up for the untitled Han Solo movie, what with the introduction of Donald Glover as a young Lando Calrissian. While we have some ideas about where the film might go, few details are known about the plot

However, we might gain some insight into what to expect thanks to comments from cinematographer Bradford Young.

While speaking to Uproxx, Young said the movie is taking a lot of inspiration from one film in particular. Unfortunately, Young wouldn’t reveal what that movie actually is.

Well, it’s time to speculate wildly. Some nonscientific guess:

  • 2001: A Space Odyssey
  • A Clockwork Orange
  • Toy Story
  • The Neighbors
  • Amelie
  • Smurfs
  • Gigli

Here’s what Young told Uproxx when asked why he signed onto the project:

That they referenced the right films in the American film lexicon that really touched me in a real tender place. And they mentioned some films that I don’t think they knew I had such a really emotional attachment to—and there’s one in particular and I’m not going to give it up because it would just tell everything. But there’s one in particular that they mentioned in the referential landscape and that one really convinced me that these cats wanted to do something different.

“These cats” refers to Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who are bringing the Han Solo film to the big screen. The two directors were previously involved with The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street.

I’m guessing the “right film” in the American film lexicon is an older classic, like Casablanca, A Streetcar Named Desire, or North by Northwest. Or maybe they mentioned an Alfred Hitchcock film. Whatever it was, it got Young to sign onto the project. (As if he needed a reason to do so.)

Tonally, the Han Solo movie will likely be way, way different from whatever movie Young is referring to. But it’s fun to hear that there’s a film out there that really gets the creative juices of the filmmakers going.

The untitled Han Solo project is currently scheduled to hit theaters in 2018.
