We already knew Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was a visually stunning movie but the latest trailer still manages to impress. There are a few shots in particular that display how beautiful the movie truly is—the Death Star eclipsing the sun and X-Wings flying over Scarif.
Even if Rogue One is a narrative disappointment, audiences will be captivated by the film’s visuals. And it’s not so much the CGI or familiar Star Wars iconography. Stylistically, Rogue One looks gritty, visceral, and more realistic than any Star Wars movie before it.
Beyond the stunning visuals, the latest Rogue One trailer reveals a few new bits of information. Even Darth Vader makes an extended appearance.
For one, we learn more about Jyn Erso’s backstory and how her father was forced to work for the Empire. We also get a brief glimpse of Jyn’s mother, who hands her what could be a Kyber Crystal.
The Force is still strong
Although this story doesn’t deal directly with the Skywalker saga, the Force is present throughout. Which makes sense, because Jedha, the planet we see the Stormtroopers patrolling, is described as a Jedi “holy land.”
We’re a little over a month away from Rogue One’s release, which is weird to say. We’ve been waiting for this movie to drop for a long, long time, and as the first spinoff, a lot is riding on this new entry.
Rogue One hits theaters on Dec. 16.
