The first teaser trailer for Transformers: The Last Knight has been released and it’s surprisingly tame—at least by Michael Bay’s standards. It’s not quite as overdramatic as his previous works though there’s plenty of explosions, slow motion, and yelling.
Based on the trailer, it’s tough to decipher exactly what’s going on. And is that Optimus Prime attacking Bumble Bee? Or is Michael Bay trying to pull a fast one?
The answer isn’t entirely clear. What is clear is that Transformers: The Last Knight will feature a lot of robot on robot fighting, along with a nice trip back through history. As the footage rolls, Anthony Hopkins ponders the cosmos and wonders why these Transformers are so adamant about conquering Earth. I’m wondering the same thing.
It’s a who’s who of returning actors in the latest installment, including Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, and John Turturro, among others. The Last Knight is supposedly a soft reboot of the series but with all the same actors, characters, and ideas, it looks like more of the same to me.

More of the same?
The Transformers franchise stopped being interesting after the first film but because these movies make a boatload of money, there’s no reason to stop. Hopefully, The Last Knight will be a much more focused affair but that’s asking a lot for a director who is all spectacle and no substance.
We’ll surely find out more as we near the film’s June 23, 2017 release.
