If you’re looking to do away with your old Christmas lights and switch over to LEDs for less power consumption, you may want to head over to Home Depot through Nov. 17.
Christmas lights are a tradition, but they also have a tradition of raising your electric bill. Home Depot is aiming to help you out a bit by allowing you to trade in your old incandescent light strings for a discount when purchasing new LED strings. The amount of the discount varies, but every little bit helps if you’ve really been on the fence about switching out your old lights. It is estimated that the amount of energy used by Christmas lights each holiday seasons is equal to adding 500,000 additional homes to the U.S. every year for that one month. If everyone switched to LEDs that would drastically cut down on the amount of energy use, not to mention cutting down on how often you would have to search for the one dead bulb in a string as LEDs last longer.
