Among the standouts, Kubo and the Two Strings was nominated for Best Animated Feature Film, while Donald Glover’s Atlanta was nominated for Best TV Series, Comedy/Musical. Meanwhile, The Night Of, which stars Rogue One’s Riz Ahmed, was nominated for Best TV Miniseries or Movie. But, let’s get real, The People vs. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story is going to win.
Winona Ryder, who played Joyce Byers in Stranger Things, was recognized for her dramatic portrayal of a grieving mother. She was an anchor in the Netflix original and it’s nice to see her receive recognition for her work.
Meanwhile, Damien Chazelle’s La La Land, a musical about two aspiring artists in Los Angeles, has been nominated for seven awards, including Best Picture, Comedy or Musical and Best Screenplay.

The Ryan Reynolds passion project Deadpool has also been nominated for Best Picture in the comedy or musical category. Not surprising, considering it has gone on to become the highest-grossing R-rated movie in history. Reynolds was also recognized for the Best Actor category in a comedy.
I’m pulling for Kubo and the Two Strings, a criminally underrated adventure film, to win for Best Animated Feature Film. Surprisingly, Pixar’s Finding Dory wasn’t nominated for Best Animated Feature Film, beat out by movie’s such as Kubo, Moana, and Zootopia. I guess Pixar is being outshone by Disney Animation, which released Zootopia in March and Moana in November.
