Lucasfilm on Monday said it won’t release Star Wars Episodes II or III in 3D, because who watches movies in 3D? Instead, the company wants to focus on developing its much anticipated new Star War trilogy, the first episode of which is being helmed by acclaimed director J.J. Abrams.

The Phantom Menace in 3D had already made it to theaters last year, but it pulled in relatively low figures ($23 million) during its opening weekend. The plan for Episodes II and III were to release the final two prequels in Sept, and Oct. of this year, but Lucasfilm instead wants to “postpone” those releases.

The company doesn’t altogether say the project is scrapped, so we could see something materialize further into the future. For now, Lucasfilm “will now focus 100 percent of [its] effort on Star Wars: Episode VII in order to ensure the best possible experience.”
