The opening of Pandora: The World of AVATAR at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is inching closer, and the park is ready to start showing off more of it.
Based on Avatar – the highest grossing film of all time – Pandora: The World of AVATAR will be opening to the public in the summer of 2017. Disney chose Christmas Day this year to release a new behind the scenes video that features the film’s director, James Cameron, about what guests can expect from the new ride once it opens.
From the brief glimpses featured in the video, it appears that the ride will have you riding on the various animals of Pandora while enjoying the glowing plants of the lush moon featured in the film.
What about the sequels?
The timing of the opening of this ride is a bit awkward as the first of four planned sequels to Avatar is currently slated to hit theaters in 2018 with the rest following in 2020, 2022 and 2023. This raises the question if we guests can expect the ride to be updated as new elements are added to the ride as they are introduced in the films.
As the ride appears to tell a unique story, it should be easy to swap out small parts, but if some new incredible set piece is added into the films, hopefully the Imagineer team has a plan in place to swap it in. Knowing the Disney crew’s planning style, it feels pretty safe to imagine that they do.
