Duncan Jones is back with his latest film, and it’s headed exclusively to Netflix.

Known for films such as Moon and Source Code, Duncan Jones is returning to his sci-fi roots with a new film entitled Mute. Netflix released the first promotional photos on Friday along with a synopsis of the story.

Set in the near-future, Leo (Alexander Skarsgård) is a bartender living in the pulsing city of Berlin. Because of a childhood accident, Leo lost the ability to speak and the only good thing in his life is his beautiful girlfriend Naadirah (Seyneb Saleh). When she vanishes without a trace, Leo’s search for her takes him deep into the city’s seedy underbelly. A pair of wise-cracking American surgeons (Paul Rudd and Justin Theroux) are the only recurring clue and Leo is forced to take on this teeming underworld in order to find his love.

Netflix is going to control the world one day

It’s difficult to not be immediately pulled into this project. From its great cast to its celebrated director, it looks like it will be one heck of a project. It does make you wonder briefly, however, how far is Netflix willing to go in the original content arena. We already know it plans to spend billions this year, and when it’s attracting talents such as these, you have to wonder what the actual limit is to where it can go.

Watching the evolution of this company has been fascinating, and it has already played a significant role in the destruction of the video rental industry, is film and TV production next on its list?

You have to wonder, but for now, let’s all just eagerly anticipate Mute which will hit the service sometime in 2017.
