Avengers: Infinity War—Peter Dinklage eyed for “key role”

In Avengers: Infinity War, Tyrion Lannister could cross paths with Bruce Banner, according to a Variety report. Sources close to Marvel’s plans claim Peter Dinklage, known for his role in Game of Thrones, could appear in the upcoming tentpole flick, which is currently scheduled for a 2018 release.

Variety doesn’t say what role Dinklage will play but fans are already pegging him to play Pip, a foul-tempered troll who often serves as comic relief. I can already see him interacting with the straight-faced Captain America, who refuses to curse let alone partake in libations (something Pip is very fond of).

In the comics, Pip proves to be a worthy adversary to Thanos, often a thorn in the supervillain’s side. As Hollywood Reporter notes, Pip teamed up with the Avengers and Spider-Man in a 1977 arc called Marvel Two-in-One Annual No. 2, later appearing in Infinity Gauntlet, Infinity War, and Infinity Crusade.

While Pip is an obvious choice for Dinklage, the character’s involvement may hinge on the arrival of Adam Warlock, who has yet to appear in Marvel’s growing universe.

Dinklage has appeared in a superhero movie before

Dinklage is no stranger to the Marvel universe, having appeared in 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past. In that film, he played Dr. Bolivar Trask, creator of the Sentinels. Needless to say, his role will be decidedly different in Avengers: Infinity War.

Anthony and Joe Russo are set to direct the upcoming sequel after helming Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War. Avengers: Infinity War is currently scheduled for a release on May 4, 2018.
