We say it time and time again, but we really dig Spotify here at TechnoBuffalo. Today, the company is making it even better by providing a new free application specifically built for the iPad and Android tablets, in addition to a new “Shuffle” mode for smartphones.
The free version of Spotify on tablets now offers the same experience that you used to get on the desktop, just in a mobile version. That means, if you’re not a subscriber, you can still listen to music in an ad-supported mode, and you no longer have to login as you did with previous tablet versions of the software. Meanwhile, the company is also introducing a new Shuffle mode for smartphones. The company doesn’t want you to think of it as a radio-style option that’s similar to Pandora, but it really is. Just, instead of creating a station for something like Bruce Springsteen and then hearing hits from similar artists like Southside Johnny, you’ll only hear songs by Springsteen. We’re not sure if we totally dig that, since we like the Pandora model that spruces things up a bit, but we’ll check it out before we make a final conclusion.
Meanwhile, the company also announced a deal with Led Zeppelin that will bring the band’s complete music catalog to Spotify for the first time. “Stairway to Heaven,” anyone?
