Kotobukiya has been a top hobby company in Japan for years, but it is only within the past 10 years or so that it has become a hot property amongst U.S. collectors. With years of experience under its belt, it’s clear the Japanese company has a little bit of something for everyone.
The booth for Kotobukiya at Toy Fair 2017 was a mix of previously announced figures and new releases, but considering how gorgeous the work is, you really don’t care. Anytime you see these products up close and personal, you are reminded of what great work they do.
Starting with DC this year, Kotobukiya is going to be hitting the comic company’s TV shows hard with new releases for Gotham, The Flash, Arrow and Supergirl. The last three are still in their early protoype phases, so expect them to change as time goes on.
While DC is getting a decent amount of love, Marvel is really taking off for Kotobukiya this with more Bishoujo figures, a new Fine Arts Vision resin and a massive Star-Lord from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 that will include a Baby Groot.
Star Wars has been a popular line for the company, and with good reason as there have been some amazing sculptures released. There will be many new products throughout the year including versions of Han Solo and Chewbacca from The Force Awakens, but one of our favorites has to be the Obi-Wan Kenobi that comes with a crumpled robe with a lightsaber laying on top of it. Now, you, too can relieve Obi-Wan’s death in excruciating detail.
Anime fans can always expect awesome products from Kotobukiya, and this year is no exception. Frame Arms Girl will continue to expand its line, while new Artfx J Statues are on the way for the likes of Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop.
Additionally, the Bishoujo line is expanding into horror this year with female versions of Chucky from the Childs Play series, and a female take on Edward Scissorhands.
It’s going to be a full year for Kotobukiya, and it definitely looks like there will be something to appeal to just about any style of collector.
