Hasbro has been riding the Transformers train for years, and it certainly isn’t slowing down in 2017.
There is a lot on Hasbro’s Transformer’s plate this year. Of course with a fifth Transformers film – The Last Knight – on the way, that means there will be a ton of new figures because, of course, everyone has to pick a new alt mode since the last film. The Hasbro reps were coy on the changes to the Dinobots and if those are reflected in the film. Which, of course, pretty much means they are, but we’ll have to wait and see.
Perhaps bigger than The Last Knight is this year’s Legends line. The Titans Return theme is continuing, and with that comes the massive Trypticon. Let’s put it this way, you are going to need a very large space to play with this monstrosity, but priced at $150, it isn’t out of line for how much toy you are getting in return.
Beyond the massive Decepticon, there are a lot of old favorites returning to the line such as Cosmos and Sea Spray, so it appears there will be a bit of something for everyone this time around.
And last but not least is the Robots in Disguise series based on the animated series. This year the Combiners are on the scene to cause trouble for our brightly colored friends.
I have to admit, as I toured the showroom, I was most definitely pulled to the Legends items far more than anything else. As an old school fan, the design aesthetics of this line is just killing it. Now if I just have enough Energon to trade for them…
