In just under two weeks, Kong: Skull Island will hit theaters, but before that, Warner Bros. released the final trailer.
Previous trailers have been very coy about Kong, but the latest footage throws all that out and shows him kicking serious ass. If you didn’t think he was badass before, you will now. He’s destroying helicopters, pounding his chest and beating the snot out of Skull Walkers.
The trailer plays off the details we already know. A group of explorers with unknown intentions venture into a mysterious island. They seek the services of an expert army veteran (Tom Hiddleston) for protection. They go into the island with the sort of entitlement and pride that is perfect for a big helping of humble pie they’re about to receive. Upon their arrival on the island they encounter indigenous people, big scary monsters and the king of the island: Kong.
This time around though, we get a little something more. Mason Weaver (Brie Larson) actually interacts with Kong in a form that hints at a possible friendship between Kong and humans. This is a similar story arc as past King Kong movies where the giant ape becomes infatuated with a beautiful woman.
Skull Island will be filled with crazy action
This last trailer delivers one clear cut message: Kong is a wonder to behold. From the crazy helicopter scene that is shown from the vantage point of the pilots to Kong’s encounter with Skull Walkers, he’s not someone you want to mess with. It’s a great juxtaposition of fear and power that builds off Kong’s mystique. Something tells me there will be many more of those scenes in the movie and I can’t wait to see them.
Kong: Skull Island hits theaters on March 10.
