In that post we recap our past experiences with un-secure offices and mention of a few of the gadgets that can make a home or office more secure, but now we’re taking a look at securing your information and possessions.
You’ve probably heard some of the common mistakes most people make with their information such as using the same password for every account. This is a big mistake. Given the climate we’re in with data breaches, it’s imperative you keep your information as secure as possible. We found a few services and tools that will help you to do just that.
Qkey
Qkey is a portable flash drive that secures sensitive information you don’t want getting into the wrong hands. You insert it into your computer and access information like credit cards, passwords, address books or other personal information. The Qkey offers the same chip technology found in Visa and Mastercard credit cards and uses military grade encryption. To access the information, the drive conjures up a secure vault that is password protected. You can buy the Qkey on Indiegogo right now for $99. It starts shipping in June 2017.
1Password/LastPass
1Password and LastPass are password protection services. They are hubs for passwords that can be accessed via the web or through their respective apps on mobile. As I mention, one of the biggest mistakes people make is keeping the same password for multiple accounts. Making up different, more complicated password can be hard to remember but these services do all the work for you. Last Pass offers a free option or a paid option of $1 per month and 1Password starts at $2.99 per month.
Dog & Bone Lock Smart Travel
The Dog & Bone Lock Smart Travel is exactly what its name suggests-a smart lock for your travel luggage. This keyless lock is controlled through your phone. It’s primary function is to eliminate the danger of losing the keys for a traveling lock. You unlock it through the Dog & Bone app. Even better, you can track the smart lock via the app. There an iOS and Android app version along with a web client.
ProtonMail
ProtonMail is a secure email service based in Switzerland. It combines end to end encryption, modern inbox and easy interface to make the most secure email client. Its servers are in Switzerland, which means all of the stored information is secured by strict Swiss privacy laws. ProtonMail can either be used through the web of its respective iOS and Android apps.
PIA VPN
VPN is a great way to browse anonymously and PIA, or Private Internet Access, is one of the best. The service accesses an given IP address in any given location giving you the freedom to access content privately. PIA is a subscription service. A year-long plan costs about $40, or $3.33 per month.
Signal Private Message
Signal is a private messaging service you can use on any mobile platform. It works like any other messaging service. You can create chats and share media but in complete privacy. Its servers never store any of the your information. Signal Private Messenger has apps for both iOS and Android.
