In Logan, several fake X-Men comics make a special appearance to help establish the past and present of Wolverine and Professor X, adding to their mythos from the eyes of X-23. Now, you can take a closer look at the vibrant creations, which artist Dan Panosian calls a “love letter” to comics of Marvel’s past.

Originally revealed ahead of Logan’s release, Panosian said he was commissioned to create 10 fake covers for the film, while another artist, Joe Quesada, created four pages with text. They appear a few different times throughout Logan, serving as a meta reference to previous X-Men adventures.

In a new interview with The Verge, Panosian revealed more information about his approach to the fake covers, and provided a better look at what showed up in the film.

The comics were meant to look like they were from the 1980s, according to Panosian. “The whole project is like a love letter to that generation of work,” Panosian said. “Stories and art that influenced and inspired so many writers and artists working today.”

Panosian goes on to say he isn’t sure if the work he created for the movie will ever show up in physical form. However, he’s hopeful the art will, at the very least, appear on the home releases.

You should check out the entire interview The Verge did with Panosian at the source link below. In it, he talks about the thematic directions he got from Marvel and how he landed the job in the first place. Overall, the comics provide that extra little detail, making Logan a cut above the rest.
