One of the crazier video game properties in recent memory has landed its lead actor. According to Deadline, Jason Momoa, aka Aquaman, aka Khal Drogo, will star in an upcoming adaptation of Just Cause, a film reportedly being directed by Brad Peyton (San Andreas).

As with anything in Hollywood, there are grander plans to turn the Just Cause movie into a larger franchise (assuming the first film does well, and you know it will).

For those unfamiliar with Just Cause, the series follows operative Rico Rodriguez, who uses a series of hooks, guns, parachutes, and anything else he can get his hands on to achieve his mission.

Basically, if you can dream it, you can do it in Just Cause. If we had to compare it to something, we’d guess the upcoming movie will probably be a mix between Fast & Furious and Mission: Impossible. Maybe even throw in some xXx.

It’s unclear how closely the movie will follow the games, but you can count on it featuring over-the-top action. Deadline says Momoa’s character will deal in some way with a crisis of conscience while on a mission.

Another video game movie disaster?

While there’s plenty of exciting talent attached, this will be a video game movie, and video game movies are never a sure thing. But considering the source material, the filmmakers have plenty of freedom to create something that’s actually fun an entertaining.

At the very least, we’re hoping to see Momoa do this.
