We already knew Thor would look different in Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok. Now, we have our first official look at his new hairdo, along with confirmation that the God of Thunder will be without Mjolnir—at least for a little while.
Entertainment Weekly provided our first glimpse at the upcoming movie, which is quickly approaching its November 3 release.
As you may have guessed, Thor’s look won’t be the only thing that’s different about Ragnarok. Because Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows) is at the helm, the movie features a different tone, one that star Chris Hemsworth commented on to EW:
Taika has such a quirky, left-of-field sense of humor, which forced all the characters and the tone of the whole story to head in a new direction. Each day we were like, ‘Are we pushing it too far? Are we allowed to have this much fun?’
Judging by the bright colors and Thor’s new makeover, the character was due for a bit of fun, especially after his last solo outing.
That’s Hela and Valkyrie
Joining Thor this time around is Hela (Cate Blanchett) and Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), the latter of whom is a noble superhero with super strength. Hela, meanwhile, is a vindictive character who banishes Thor to a planet called Sakaar, where he’s forced to become a gladiator. It’s there that Thor realizes he’s nothing special.
“No one cares what prince or king Thor may have been in another world,” Hemsworth told EW. “Also, his strength is pretty easily matched with those he finds himself amongst.”
And, yes, that includes Hulk, who Thor will do battle against, a rematch of sorts from the first Avengers movie.
More information about Thor: Ragnarok should be unveiled throughout the week, so we’ll keep an eye out. Hopefully, that also means Marvel is ready to share a trailer for the film, which has been mysteriously missing.
