The Asus Transformer Book Duet TD300 is a mouthful, but go figure, because as a product it can do more than a lot of others can. Asus just announced the device during the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show, and it’s pretty wild.
For one, you can switch between running Android 4.3 Jelly Bean or Windows 8.1 at the tap of a button. After about 2-3 seconds, the operating system completely switches and you’re in a brand new environment. It’s pretty amazing, especially considering that the system can run on an Intel Core i3, Intel Core i5 or Intel Core i7 processor (depending on how you configure it). At the lowest end, it’s going to set you back only $599, though, which is really pretty amazing considering the functionality you’ll get out of it.
Also, you might remember other Transformer products: they’re tablets that can attach into a keyboard to create a laptop experience. In this case, you can have four such products: an Android tablet, an Android laptop, a Windows tablet or a Windows laptop.
While the functionality is no doubt neat, the device itself could use a bit more work in the industrial design department. It doesn’t look exciting, it’s on the heavier side, and it does feel a bit cheap around the edges. Asus could have done a bit better by creating a more premium feel for the entire package, especially since the device itself seems quite amazing.
