Ryan Reynolds on Thursday confirmed some big news for the Deadpool sequel: Zazie Beetz, the breakout star of FX’s Atlanta, will play superhero Domino, who comic fans will recognize as the character in X-Force.
Reynolds made the not-so-subtle announcement on his Twitter account.
Beetz’s turn in the role comes after much speculation about who would play the mercenary. Earlier this week, Hidden Figures star Janelle Monáe was thought to be a lock for the role, but the rumor was quickly shot down by screenwriter Rhett Reese.
No other details were provided, but at least the speculation about who will play Domino can stop.
Beetz played Vanessa “Van” Keefer in Atlanta, the ex-girlfriend of Earnest “Earn” Marks, who was played by Donald Glover.
Deadpool 2 is still months away
Although it hit a few snags, production for the Deadpool sequel is well underway. Unfortunately, the film isn’t expected to be released until 2018, so we still have a long time to wait.
In the meantime, you can check out the Deadpool footage that played before Logan, which Reese confirmed is “NOT a teaser or trailer,” but a short.
“None of its footage will appear in Deadpool 2,” Reese said.
