Move aside, Zack Snyder, a new director is joining the DCEU. According to a report from Collider, Matthew Vaughn (Kingsman: The Secret Service, Kick-Ass) has been tapped to direct Man of Steel 2, a project once thought to be off Warner Bros.’ schedule.
Apparently, Vaughn and executives at Warner Bros. have opened preliminary discussions, though no offers have been made just yet. However, Vaughn is said to be a top choice for the film; if he doesn’t direct Man of Steel 2, the studio still wants him to direct a future DCEU film.
Vaughn tends to gravitate toward more action-oriented movies, so Man of Steel would be a good fit. Not to mention, he took charge of X-Men: First Class, which is considered one of the franchise’s best entries.
Collider says Vaughn was actually considered to direct Man of Steel, but the studio ultimately passed. At the time, Vaughn said, “Superman is about color and fun, or it should be, for me.” While there’s no telling what direction the Man of Steel sequel might go, Vaughn’s comments might give us a clue if he were to take charge.

The DCEU has been portrayed as very dark and dreary thus far, so it could certainly benefit from an injection of color. Vaughn is reportedly in the very early stages of discussions, so an agreement may not even be reached. But considering his resume, it gets us very excited for his potential involvement.
