Mission: Impossible 6 nabs heroic DCEU actor

The next entry in the Mission: Impossible franchise just got an actor from the DCEU. According to Variety, Henry Cavill, who played Superman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, will have a role in Mission: Impossible 6, joining Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Rebecca Ferguson, and Simon Pegg.

While plot details are scarce, sources claim Cavill will play “some sort of right hand to the head of Cruise’s unit.” If true, there’s a chance he won’t be involved in much of the action. However, you don’t add someone with Cavill’s stature and keep him in an office.

The actor primarily has turns in action-oriented films, so we should expect him to join Cruise’s Ethan Hunt out in the field at some point. In Mission: Impossible—Rogue Nation, the head of Cruise’s unit was played by Alec Baldwin, though Variety isn’t clear on whether he’ll return.

Super Mission: Impossible

Cavill is currently slated to appear in this year’s Justice League, and a Man of Steel sequel is also reportedly on the way. The 34-year-old actor previously appeared in Guy Ritchie’s The Man from U.N.C.L.E., which saw him play super spy Napoleon Solo. Adding him to Mission: Impossible adds even more gravitas to a film that’s teeming with action movie veterans.

Writer/director Christopher McQuarrie has been confirmed to return. Expect Mission: Impossible 6 to hit theaters on July 27, 2018.
