In the year since Netflix went (mostly) global, the company has seen mobile usage climbing quickly. It’s considering making versions of its content with those audiences in mind, The Verge reports.

It’s possible “that you could take a master [copy] and make a different cut for mobile,” said Netflix Chief Product Officer Neil Hunt at an event in San Francisco.

Small screens require big details

The company hasn’t recut anything like this yet, but that soaring mobile audience has different requirements. They’re viewing on smaller screens and in less friendly lighting conditions. Details that might look great on a 55″ television might be all-but-lost on a mobile phone. The Verge notes that mobile viewing is especially popular in India, while more established markets are typically watching on televisions.

It sounds like if Netflix did this, they might show up in a way similar to the way 4K and Ultra HD content shows up for people watching on more modern televisions, with a separate rundown of platform-specific content.

Do you watch Netflix on your phone? Would you want to see the company provide a phone-specific version of your favorite Netflix show to make for a better viewing experience? Jump into the comments and let us know.
