Less than six months after becoming the first artist to see 1 billion streams on Apple Music, Drake has again broken music streaming records. His new “More Life” album was enjoyed a staggering 89.9 million times on Apple Music in just 24 hours after making its debut.
Unlike last year’s “Views,” “More Life” is not exclusive to Apple Music — it’s also available on rival streaming services. It was streamed over 61.3 million times during its first day on Spotify, surpassing Ed Sheeran’s “Divide” for day-one streams. It also broke the record for single-day artist streams on Sunday, March 19, with almost 76.4 million plays.
But despite having significantly more subscribers (100 million versus 20 million), Spotify’s numbers were easily surpassed by Apple Music. “More Life” also helped set records on Beats 1, with Saturday’s episode of OVO Sound Radio, the show hosted by Drake, becoming the station’s most popular episode since Apple Music launched in June 2015.
“More Life” is now on track to beat every other music streaming record set so far — many of which were held by Drake for “Views.” As things stand, nine tracks off the album are featured in Apple Music’s top ten chart, with Ed Sheeran’s Galway Girl grabbing the tenth spot.
