We already knew the upcoming Han Solo spinoff would chronicle the smuggler’s life before he meets Obi-Wan and Luke. Now, we have a few more details about what we’ll learn along his journey from becoming an infamous scoundrel to Rebel hero.
According to Disney CEO Bob Iger, Han’s story will show the smuggler’s life between the ages of 18 to 24, detailing how he meets Chewbacca, how he wins the Millennium Falcon, and supposedly how he gets his name (though there’s been some confusion about that).
Iger’s comments were to be expected. Seeing as how Lando is in the film, it makes sense we’d get a better explanation as to how Solo won the Millennium Falcon. You also can’t have a Han Solo film without showing how his friendship with Chewbacca began.
We’re not entirely sure what the reports mean when they say the movie will unveil how Han Solo got his name. Either that’s his given smuggler name or we’re going to see Solo build a reputation for himself in the movie. Perhaps it actually means he’ll make a name for himself.
The Han Solo movie isn’t far away
After this year’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the Han Solo film will be released in 2018, which isn’t that far away. The movie will star Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, and Thandie Newton.
According to recent comments from Disney executives, the film will feel like a space Western.
