Netflix has been rapidly expanding its programming in ambitious fashion over the past couple years, and it isn’t stopping anytime soon. The streaming giant has scooped up the producer of the animated series Archer, Matt Thompson, for its first animated film.
The animated project will be titled America: The Motion Picture, and will be a new take on the history of the United States. The movie will also reportedly be R-rated, which means the gloves will be off in terms of the type of comedy it will feature.
Adam Reed, who also worked on Archer, will serve as a producer. Thompson and Reed also created two other animated series, SeaLab2021 and Frisky Dingo. Dave Callaham (The Expendables) will pen the script while Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the directors of The Lego Movie, will also contribute to the movie in some unspecified capacity.
America: The Motion Picture will be Netflix’s first full-length animated film. It has some experience with a few animated series, including The Mr. Peabody and Sherman Show and BoJack Horseman, but this is new territory it is venturing into.
Who will voice the cast?
Channing Tatum will voice George Washington and will also get a producer credit. So far, he’s the only actor attached to the project.
No release date has been announced yet for America: The Motion Picture.
